How to Take CBD Oil

We live in a world of information and unlimited access to that information. For the most part, that is great! However, too much information can sometimes lead people to be overwhelmed and eventually lead to paralysis through analysis. Many people decide they want to try CBD and find effective ways to stimulate their Endocannabinoid System, then feel frozen with the number of options out there. Hopefully, these people have found DirectHemp.com where we have taken the guesswork out of what products and brands are good or not. So now, the question is, how do I take CBD? We will break this down into three parts. The first part we will go through the different delivery methods you can use to take CBD. Then we will look at appropriate serving sizes. Lastly, we will talk about consistency.

When learning how to take CBD oil, you will want to find a delivery method that works for you. The main methods you will find when it comes to taking CBD are:

If you choose tinctures, you will benefit by holding the tincture under your tongue for 30-60 seconds because this will help you absorb the CBD sublingually which will allow you to feel relief faster than you would with capsules or edibles. Tinctures also come in varying sizes so it makes it easier to dial in your ideal serving size or dose.

If you choose capsules, you will benefit from being able to integrate this with your daily routine. If you already have capsules you take daily, then adding a couple more to help get your CBD is almost effortless. Also, you know exactly how many milligrams of CBD is in each capsule, so it allows you to be very specific with your serving size. Many times, capsules have other adaptogens and ingredients that have been specifically formulated to help with a variety of ailments. Some tinctures do this, but not nearly to the degree that can be done with capsules. Capsules will take longer to work than tinctures, however, as they will need to be broken down by the stomach before the CBD will truly enter your bloodstream.

Edibles are for people who like to have a little treat when taking their CBD. Edibles typically come in gummies or taffies and allow you to enjoy some flavor while taking CBD. Edibles are also very specifically dosed so you know exactly what you are getting per edible. Edibles are a bit faster in absorption than capsules but not as fast as tinctures.

Topicals are typically for people who are looking to target a certain area they are having trouble with. For an athlete looking to target sore muscles or someone who has a nagging joint injury, topicals allow them to be very specific with where their body will receive CBD. Many times, we suggest taking an ingestible along with a topical to give your body the best chance at relief. We like to call that the “inside-out method”. By taking an ingestible you are helping with inflammation from the inside while using a topical to help on the outside.

Isolate is the purest form of CBD. It looks like a white powder and is 99% pure cannabidiol. Isolate is the quickest way to feel CBD (when held sublingually for 30-60 seconds) of all the delivery methods other than vape. We typically recommend an isolate and a tincture. The tincture allows you to get in a routine of taking CBD every day, while the isolate is good to have on hand when you experience something above and beyond the norm. Just take a pinch, put it under your tongue, and you are good to go!

Vapes are a very fast way to get CBD into your system. You will not find vapes on DirectHemp.com because we are still unsure of the safety of them or the long-term effects of inhaling things at super high temperatures. We fear that, along with the CBD, you may be inhaling heavy metals and other toxic chemicals and we cannot support our friends or family taking that risk.

If you have shopped around a little, you may have found that CBD also can be included directly into supplements. This option is great for people who regularly take protein but have no other supplement or capsule daily routine. When you make your protein shake, you are also getting your daily dose of CBD and you can continue on with your day! Simple, easy and effective!

The next thing we want to talk about is serving size or dose size. This will vary from person to person and will take some experimentation in finding what mg/day works best for you. The studies out currently do show that you want to aim for greater than 10mg/day. Something to keep in mind however, is that CBD will have some breakdown in the liver. This can be mitigated if you use a water-soluble tincture, but if not, you want to take around 15-20mg to get to the final result of 10mg after liver breakdown. This is easy to do if you start with a 500mg tincture in a 30ml bottle. The serving size of this would be 1ml which would equate to 16.67mg. Again, it may take some experimentation here, but some people prefer a full serving in the morning, others prefer to split it up half and half and some prefer to take it all at night. Listen to your body to experiment and find what works best for you. If you plan on taking high amounts of CBD, we suggest doing that before bed. While small amounts of CBD in the morning can help you feel focused and energized, large amounts can help you feel relaxed or even sleepy.

The last thing we want to talk about is consistency. No matter what delivery method you choose, the most important part of taking CBD is consistency. CBD helps so many people because everyone has an Endocannabinoid System, just like we have a respiratory system and cardiovascular system. So if you train your respiratory system or cardiovascular system by running a mile one day, you wouldn’t see much result. If you train your respiratory and cardiovascular system by running 3-5 days a week you will see huge results over the course of a year. The same goes for your endocannabinoid system. You want to be consistently giving it the support (CBD) that it needs to stay in an optimized state!

What delivery method is your favorite? What is your preferred mg/day? How long have you been consistent? Let us know in the comments below!
