Help Us Protect Access to Hemp in Virginia

Dear Charlotte’s Web family,

We’re writing to ask for your help. There is proposed legislation in the Virigina House and Senate that would restrict access of Virginians to hemp-derived CBD products. Protect your access by contacting your Virginia lawmakers!

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first state we’ve seen try to enact regulation on our industry that is detrimental to consumers seeking to manage their own wellness. We’ve been working hard with legislators in states across the country to ensure our family of customers has access to the highest quality CBD.

We need your help to protect access to hemp in Virginia. We went through this fight here in Colorado and have seen success in protecting hemp-derived CBD access by encouraging the public to take action.

While we’re encouraged that regulators are paying attention to our industry, see recent statement on the FDA’s call to Congress, we need to help them understand the science behind hemp-derived CBD products.

Here’s what’s going on in Virginia:

Lawmakers introduced three bills: HB 2294, SB 903, and HB 1973 with the intent of distinguishing between non-intoxicating hemp product and intoxicating adult-use cannabis, but as drafted they would severely restrict access to full spectrum hemp products in Virginia.

HB 2294 would impose a THC milligram limit of 2 mg per package, which would eliminate access to full and broad- spectrum hemp products.

SB 903 and HB 1973 would restrict the sale of hemp products that contain any level of THC – even safe, non-intoxicating products – to persons 21 years or older.

Why are we, Charlotte’s Web, so against these bills?

The products we manufacture, and sell are full spectrum hemp products with naturally occurring CBD. Full spectrum products contain trace amounts of other plant compounds including THC at less than 0.3% THC (as permitted under the 2018 Farm Bill).

Thousands of your fellow Virginians rely on our products for their general wellness, and we want to protect their access.

If these bills are enacted as-is, they would severely limit Virginia consumers access to full spectrum CBD products via ecommerce and retail outlets.

Here’s where you can help:

Contact your legislator and urge them to oppose SB 903, HB 1973 and HB 2294 via the portal available at US Hemp Roundtable State Action Center.
